Frequently Asked Questions

General

It is a community where you can learn languages in the quickest and most effective way: by talking. In aabloo, language students can practice with professional teachers and native speakers around the world via live video calls.

The platform offers two environments: Private Classes, in which students can choose their teachers and schedule their conversation sessions; and the Social Network, which allows to find other aabloo users and chat with them for free.

In addition, aabloo offers a built-in evaluation system for students, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Roles represent the languages you study or teach in aabloo. You can have several roles, one for each language you want to study or teach. For example, you could have two roles, one as a Chinese student and another as a Spanish teacher.

There are three types of roles: student, teacher and speaker.

A student is a user who wants to learn a language or improve his/her fluency through practice and conversation.

A teacher is a user with formal training as a language teacher, and is capable of providing structured and personalized classes for each student.

A speaker is a user who masters a language or speaks it fluently or natively, and is able to guide and assist students during a conversation.

If you have several roles, the active role indicates which one you are currently using. The active role influences the results shown when you search teachers or students, and determines what actions you can do. You can only have one active role at a time.

Yes! You can create as many roles as you want using the same user account.

We currently support 10 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Catalan. We will be adding many more soon!

In the "Roles" tab within the "Settings" screen you will see a list of your current roles.

To modify an existing role, click the "Edit" icon next to the role name.

To create a new role, click on the "New Role" button right below the list of roles.

You can change the language of the website using the language switcher you'll find at the bottom of every page.

The application is currently available in English and Spanish only, but we are working to translate aabloo into more languages soon.

You can change your password from the "Settings" section. Go to the "Password" tab, fill in the fields, and click Save.

You can recover your password by clicking on the "I forgot my password" link on the bottom of the login form in aabloo. In the box that appears, enter your account email address and we will send you an email with instructions on how to recover your password.

Please write us an email to info@aabloo.com and we will try to help you as soon as possible.

Private Classes

Private Classes are personalized language classes between a student and a teacher or speaker. Private Classes are held via Skype and are an hour long.

In the Private Classes section, you can check the availability calendar of teachers and speakers by clicking the "Book class" button, and then book the lessons by clicking the empty slots in the calendar.

Once booked, classes will be added for both the student and the teacher/speaker to their “Home” section, where all the classes are managed. The most frequent stages of a class, from booking to completion, are:

  • The students books a class.
  • The teacher/speaker confirms the class.
  • The student pays the class, at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.
  • At the scheduled time, both parties conduct the class via Skype.
  • When the class ends, both users fill in a brief evaluation form where they asses the other user.

A class may be canceled by the student, as long as the teacher/speaker has not yet confirmed it; or by the teacher, as long as the student has not yet paid it.

Students can reschedule a class within 48 hours prior to the scheduled time. After this limit, classes can't be rescheduled.

If a teacher/speaker is not going to be able to attend a booked and confirmed class, the teacher may require the student to reschedule the class.

Classes that have not been confirmed 24 hours after being booked or not paid 24 hours after being confirmed will expire and will be automatically canceled.

You need to have an aabloo account, to have working Skype and PayPal accounts, and to have provided any additional information that aabloo could request to teachers and speakers after registration

You need to have an aabloo account, to have a working Skype account, and to complete the booking and payment process of the class at least 24 hours before the starting time of the class.

Yes, all your Private Classes are stored, along with all evaluation data. You can view all your past and current classes at any time by clicking the 'Show all appointments' button.

You can reschedule the class within 24 hours prior to the scheduled time, provided that the teacher/speaker has any available time slots.

During the last 24 hours prior to the scheduled time the class can't be rescheduled or cancelled.

If this happens, click the 'Report issue' option of the class dropdown button and send us an email to the specified address, telling us your case and specifying the class code shown there. We will try to find a solution to your situation or refund you the money.

The class will count as confirmed and done. You will be paid and the student will not be able to reschedule the class or get a refund.

Social Network

The Social Network is the community where all aabloo users can get in touch with other users and practice language conversation for free.

In the Social Network you can find all aabloo users (students, speakers and teachers) and see who is online at that moment, so you can get in touch, chat or start a live call with them.

Like the Private Classes, the Social Network features search filters so you can quickly find the users that interest you most.

Roulette is an option within the Social Network that finds and shows you one of the online users at random, so you can quickly start a conversation with someone. The system randomly selects a user among those who match the specified search criteria, and shows only that user so you don’t need to spend time comparing and choosing.

Each time you click the "Roulette" button, a different user will show up.

Contacts are those users that you want to have on hand, so you can talk or chat with them anytime, from anywhere in aabloo.

Your status tells other users if you are connected to the Social Network, showing a small colored indicator next to your picture.

You can change your status at any time between 'Online', 'Busy' and 'Offline' from the dropdown menu at the right of the top bar (the one with your avatar photo).

When you search users in the Social Network, you can use the different search filters available. With the Level filter, you can set a range of levels you want the students shown to have.

Audio and video

You need a microphone, headphones or speakers, an adequate Internet connection and a Skype account. If you're a teacher or speaker, you will also need a PayPal account

If you don't have a Skype account, you can create one and download the software by clicking here.

If you don't have a PayPal account, you can create one by clicking here.

Open Skype and click on "Preferences", then click in the "Privacy" section. Once there, make sure you are allowing calls and messages from any user, not just your contacts. (Note: the process and the names of these options may vary depending on your version Skype or your operating system)

To change your audio or video settings in Skype, you can check the Skype FAQ page clicking here.

The quality of the call depends on the Internet connection of all participants in the conversation. If you experience poor or unstable audio or video quality during a class, it is likely that either your connection or your partner’s connection is not strong enough.

In order to improve the quality of the call, try to close other applications that might be downloading or uploading data to the Internet, have the minimum number of applications running, or using a broadband wireless network instead of mobile networks.

Also, we recommend using headphones in order to prevent external noises or voice coupling between the speakers and the microphone.

Payments and billing

You can create an aabloo account and access most of its features for free, and you only need to pay if you want to book Private Classes with teachers or speakers. Teachers and speakers set their hourly rates for their classes, and aabloo receives a small percentage of each transaction.

As a student, once you have booked a class and the teacher/speaker has confirmed it, you can pay your booking by clicking on the "Pay" button of that class. You will need either a credit card or a PayPal account to pay the class.

Of course! All payments are handled through PayPal, a secure transaction system that encrypts and protects your data at all times. Read more about PayPal's Security Policy here.

Please contact us via info@aabloo.com, we will reply as soon as possible.
